EPISODE 1: PERSONAL MUSIC TRIVIA DUEL

​KZSC Santa Cruz DJs rat & Catrophy explore the epic highs & lows of personal music history trivia on 88.1 fm's very first (?) half game show / half music show. In a tennis-like duel, our beloved disk jockeys take turns answering a question with a song & then hit back with a question inspired by their song. Keep your ears perked for some questions like a cover better than the original? reminds you of someone you don't wanna think about? road trip anthems? regrettable old favorites? best long songs?​ and moooooore!

Was meant to air on 10/13/23 but due to a freak accident, it never saw the light of day. It's just you and me who've experienced this shit.

DEAR LISTENER, to be quite frank, radio is host to a sad sad world of lost media and I only began backlogging these episodes a few in. We missed a few beautiful ones, I.E 2 + 3 + 4, but this just means you get to picture us doing a really really good job. I recently had a stranger ask me what radio shows I ran and they did not care about my 2-year old baby Feline Funky BUT they gasped when I said I was on this one. And that is a first. Their testimonial goes as follows: "you guys are HILARIOUS. which one are you? who's rat?" so really.. I'm sorry you're missing out. Sorry for you more than me. Cause I was there. I did it. I lived it. I'm not sad at all, nuh uh. I learned a valuable lesson about the ephemera of beloved art and funsies, one I unfortunately keep on learning over and over again.

EPISODE 5: CREPARDY

KZSC Santa Cruz disk jockey rat pits their cohost DJ Catrophy against DJs in training B and Bellbottoms in a bloody game of "CREPARDY". Contestants take turns answering questions about Radio terms, Radio History, Radio Mystery, Cat & Rat's Animal Jam, and KZSC Training. Quite frankly being the torturee was horrific and I hope to never be on the other side of the board ever ever again.

Episode 5 originally aired November 10th 2023, but due to a freak accident this is only the first hour and 15 minutes. I'm so so so so sorry. THE END RESULTS (SPOILERS AHEAD):

I, DJ Catrophy, got demolished by my own students and now I'm afraid to go outside. Sometimes I went too easy. Sometimes I'm just that stupid. We will account for teacher inflation knowledge in a more competitive and interesting way in the future. We DID reach our pledge drive goal of raising 20$ from DJ Waterbear so that is good for us. I think Bellbottoms won with B close behind. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ended the night with a nice bit of personal trivia, answering the questions "what's a dog song you love?" (RIP Foxy the Dog <3) and "you're on a plane. it's going to crash. you're going to die. what song do you put on to enjoy the ride down?" you'll never know what we played. I'm sorry. (there was some sewerslut, some glass beach, and some slaughter beach dog. quite lovely stuff)

KZSC Deejays rat & Catrophy welcome special guest DJ WATERBEAR onto Cat & Rat's battle radio for the first-even game of sentences! DJs took turns adding songs to the playlist to continue the sentence of song titles. If ya can't figure something out, YOU'RE out. It's like evil, long winded hot potato and it's lots of fun. (PLAYER ORDER GOES: rat, Waterbear, Catrophy. Forever and ever. Until whammy #16.) An hour of sentences made us throw in the towel and we played some personal music trivia -- bravely asking for some of our favorite soundtrack songs (Anyone Else But You, Come and Get Your Love, and Zombie), songs that We understand better than anyone else (Zombie, 800db Cloud) a song that reminded rat of divorce (Word Up), and a song that reminded catrophy of their family (What Happened...).

Our hosts do their very best to unscramble the top 10 Billboard singles of various early 2000s & 2010s years, accumulating points based on accuracy and pity. There's some good ol banter in this one -- HOTLINES! rat is BFFs with clint mcelroy, catrophy recounts DIY exposure therapy, and we spill the deal about our elementary school romances. get into ittttt.

EPISODE 8: THERE'S ALSO TOP 10 PITCHFORK ALBUMS IN YOUR AREA

In a lovely and logical continuation of last week's episode, KZSC DJs rat & Catrophy throw DJ3N into the bloody arena to determine WHOM among the three of us is best at tapping in to the public music snob consciousness of the 2010s! That's riiiight baby, we're unshuffling the top 10 PITCHFORK albums of various years in the 2010s! Every mistake feels personal this time. I might be a DJ but I'm not fantastic at this.
